Purpose and Function

The Jackson County Tax Assessment Office is required by North Carolina General State Statutes to:

  • Maintain owner of record files on all real property (land and buildings)
  • Maintain owner of record files for all personal and business personal property.
  • Maintain appraisal files for all real and personal property.
  • Maintain a permanent listing system for all real property.
  • Assist property owners with listing abstracts during the required listing period during January of each year.
  • Conduct a revaluation of all real property based on the designated time cycle.
  • Process Old Age and Disability Discount Applications.
  • Process Present Use Value Applications.
  • Process Tax Exempt Status Applications.
